Tony Kaye BVSc (Hons) BA MRCVS

Clinical Director

After starting his veterinary career in South Wales, Tony has spent over 25 years working in Devon in predominantly equine practice, first at Wolfgar and then St Davids Equine Practice. He enjoys all aspects of first opinion equine work, but has developed special interests in lameness, poor performance, back pain and dentistry. Tony is a member of the ARVS (Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons) and is the Senior Veterinary Surgeon at both Exeter and Newton Abbot Racecourses.  He also performs Riding School Licensing for Exeter, Mid Devon and East Devon Councils and is a member of the British Equine Veterinary Association. Outside work Tony enjoys walking on Dartmoor and on the Cornish coast path. He also has a passion for music and enjoys playing and listening to jazz saxophone.

Teresa Cordovil MSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Teresa graduated with an integrated master’s degree from the University of Lisbon in December 2013. After some travelling, she moved to Newmarket and completed an internship in equine orthopaedics and diagnostic imaging at the Animal Health Trust working with the renowned equine lameness diagnostician Sue Dyson. Teresa then moved to Bristol where she completed her postgraduate diploma in clinical veterinary practice at the university. Teresa brought her skills to Devon in August 2017 and became one of the founder members of Phoenix Equine. Her main clinical interests include sports medicine, diagnostic imaging and orthopaedics. During her free time, Teresa enjoys walking on Dartmoor with her dog, travelling, baking and horse riding.

Charlotte Harrisson BVSc BA (Hons) MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Charlotte attained her veterinary degree from Liverpool University having previously completed a degree in Animal Science at Hartpury College. As well as all other aspects of first opinion practice, Charlotte has a special interest in sarcoids and completed a research project into these lesions while at Liverpool (Liverpool have been regarded as a centre of excellence in this field). Charlotte also has a particular interest in Donkey Medicine and works closely with the Donkey Sanctuary at two of their sites.

Andrew Hill MA VetMB GPCert(EqP) MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Andrew qualified from Cambridge University in 1986. After a period in practice in the Cambridge fens he moved to Devon in 1987 and worked in mixed practices in Crediton and Honiton before joining a partnership in Okehampton. Here he gradually gravitated toward horse work before leaving to establish a horse only practice in Newton Abbot. During this time he gained a European School of Postgraduate Veterinary Studies certificate of Equine Practice.

After five years developing this business the opportunity arose for Andrew to work at the equine centre at the University of Bristol School of Clinical Veterinary Science and this fulfilled a desire he had to put something back into the profession by working with the next generation of veterinary students.

After returning to Newton Abbot in 2013, another horse practice was established and this was successful for eight years before the merger with Phoenix Equine in May 2021.

Ann Burnett BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Ann started her veterinary career in Devon and wanted to return to the area to settle here. She started with us at Phoenix Equine in April 2021. She qualified from Bristol University in 2013 and has worked in predominantly equine practice since then. Ann has a wealth of varied equine veterinary experience and among her previous positions spent nearly two years working at B&W Equine Hospital – she was highly recommended to us by the specialist veterinary team there. Immediately prior to joining Phoenix, Ann spent three years working as a dedicated equine vet in New Zealand.

In her spare time she enjoys running, cycling and triathlons and she has completed both the London marathon and cycled the length of the UK.

Laura Ruby BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Laura graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2013 and moved back home to Cornwall to start work. In her first job she did a mix of equine and small animal work for the first year, before following her passion and she has been working solely with horses ever since. She enjoys the variety of first opinion equine practice, with particular interests in poor performance work and laser surgery.

Laura joined Phoenix Equine after having a short period of time off, following the birth of her son in the summer of 2021. Outside of work Laura is a keen showjumper and has been regularly competing at venues across the southwest for many years.

Katie Carnall BVM BVS MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Katie grew up in Cornwall where she developed her passion for eventing before moving up to study at University of Nottingham. After graduating she completed a year long equine internship in Oxfordshire before moving to a position at a busy equine practice in the heart of Lambourn, Berkshire with a varied caseload of Performance, Race and leisure horse work. She then returned back to Cornwall for a period to work as part of the equine team at a mixed practice in Penzance before moving up to South Devon. Katie is particularly interested in sports horse medicine and injury rehabilitation however enjoys helping horses and owners in all aspects of Equine Veterinary work.

Tiegan Sime BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

We are really excited to welcome Tiegan Sime as an additional member of the Phoenix Equine veterinary team. Tiegan joined us at the beginning of September 2024. Tiegan graduated from the University of Bristol and has a keen interest in all aspects of ambulatory equine practice, with particular interests in internal medicine, endocrine diseases and lameness. Tiegan grew up in Devon, riding and owning horses, so already knows the area well. Outside of work, she enjoys running, walking in the countryside and going to the gym.

Eleanor Storey BVM&S MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

We were so excited that Eleanor Storey, “Ellie” came back to Phoenix to work with us again. Ellie was a valued part of our veterinary team for a number of years, both at Phoenix Equine and our previous practice, before leaving to start a family. She was also one of the founder members of Phoenix Equine. Ellie works some extra days to help us out when we are busy or vets are on holiday, but her main role is to help us cover our work outside normal working hours during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Ellie is an experienced equine vet who qualified in 2010 and has worked in equine first opinion and emergency practice since. Before qualifying as a vet she also worked as an equine nurse at Liphook Equine Hospital and as a groom at a busy eventing yard so her experience with horses is extensive and varied. Ellie has always been a valued colleague and a great asset to our team, and it is great to be working with her again.

Claire Chudley RVN J-SQP

Office Manager

As office manager, Claire is responsible for the smooth running of the practice. She is the main point of contact between the practice and our clients while manning the office phones and, assisted by Janie, organises the diaries for the team of vets. She also plays an important role in helping clients with their insurance queries. Claire is a registered veterinary nurse and has worked in mixed and equine veterinary practice in the South West all her working life. Her knowledge and experience of all manner of veterinary problems affecting horses and of the practice area allows her to be a calm, reassuring and efficient voice on the end of the phone.

Janie Hucker J-SQP

Head Nurse & Office

Janie started riding when she was around four years old with a Shetland called Thomas the Tank and joined the Pony Club at the age of 14. She has competed through the levels of showing, showjumping, dressage and eventing but particularly relished being behind the scenes, bringing on the horses and getting them ready to compete. Janie became interested in the veterinary side of equine when Tony Kaye came out to treat her horses many years ago and has been dedicated to nursing horses ever since! Janie is married to Guy and is based in Sidmouth with her horses, Milo and Stunty, as well as her dogs and chickens. Janie is a J-SQP which enables her to advise on and dispense certain medications for horses. She has a wealth of nursing experience and regularly assists with clinic procedures and surgery, helps to organise the vet’s diaries, controls stock and medication orders and also runs the laboratory services that we provide. Janie established our competitively priced bespoke worming services and is planning to offer this to clients as part of a mobile service in the future. oversees the in house and external laboratory services that we provide.

Arianne Bowles

Vet Tech & Office

Arianne started working at Phoenix Equine in April 2021 but was already well known to the Phoenix Team and to many of our clients as she had already worked with us in a similar role for a number of years at a previous practice. Arianne has a wealth of experience and, as well as helping Claire and Janie in the office, provides help to the vets out on the road or in our Filham Park clinic as an extra pair of experienced hands for more complicated procedures such as gastroscopy, lameness examinations or surgical procedures. Arianne is a really valued addition to the Phoenix Team.

Hannah Hosking

Vet Tech & Office

Hannah joined the team at Phoenix Equine in February 2023. Hannah has always had a passion for horses and grew up surrounded by them. Prior to joining Phoenix Equine, Hannah gained a wealth of knowledge working as a groom in many different scenarios ranging from donkeys to event horses and even Alpacas! Hannah is a member of our support staff and not only assists in the office, but also provides help to the vets out on the road or at our Filham Park Clinic for more complicated procedures. Outside of work Hannah is kept very busy with her collection of horses, including the most recent addition of a cheeky new foal.
