Diagnostic Imaging
Radiography
Phoenix Equine have three of the most up-to-date mobile, digital and fully wireless portable X ray systems for use on yards. We are able to take and view diagnostic images of excellent quality on your yard within seconds.
The vets are able to use these fantastic systems for imaging backs, joints, teeth, sinuses, feet and almost any other part of the horse you can think of!
Being able to get good pictures on the yard allows us to diagnose conditions such as laminitis and start appropriate treatment or management immediately leading to better outcomes. It also enables us to work alongside your farrier (and horse!) when dealing with horses requiring remedial farriery or we can email the digital images straight over to your farrier if they are unable to attend at the same time.
Ultrasound scanning
Ultrasonography is a widely used and versatile diagnostic tool in horses. It plays a key role in diagnosing and assessing a variety of soft tissue conditions, including injuries to joints, tendons and ligaments, as well as in monitoring their healing progress over time.
In addition to musculoskeletal evaluations, ultrasound is valuable for investigating abdominal pain—such as in cases of colic, internal swellings, or liver disease—and is commonly used in cardiology assessments. It also provides real-time guidance for safely performing biopsies of internal organs like the liver and kidneys.
Ultrasound is routinely used in reproductive work as well, including monitoring the mare’s reproductive cycle and confirming pregnancy.
Our vets have access to portable ultrasound scanners which are easily transported and can be used on your yard.
